Privacy Policy

This policy explains, in plain language, what data Maison Barton ("we", "us") collects when you use the Clipthesis app, the optional Clipthesis Backup service, and the clipthesis.com website — and what we do with it. The short version: the free app is local-first and collects almost nothing; if you subscribe to Clipthesis Backup, we store your account details, usage metering, and the backups you choose to upload.

1. The free app is local-first

Clipthesis works offline. Your media files, thumbnails, tags, collections, transcripts, and library database are stored on your own Mac and drives. They are not uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly turn on Clipthesis Backup. You can use the entire free app without creating an account.

2. Account information

If you sign in (needed only for Clipthesis Backup and library sync), authentication is handled by Logto, our sign-in provider. We store the basics needed to run your account: your email address, a user identifier, and your subscription status.

3. Payments

Payments for Clipthesis Backup are processed entirely by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store your card numbers. We keep what's needed to bill you correctly: your subscription status and daily storage-usage metering (how many GB you have stored).

4. Backup data

When you back up a drive, the media you choose is uploaded and stored with Backblaze B2 on servers located in the European Union (region eu-central-003). Backups are content-addressed and deduplicated. We store your backup data solely to provide the service back to you — we don't mine it, sell it, or use it for anything else. Data is encrypted in transit.

5. Analytics

The app uses PostHog to collect basic product analytics — which features are used and how often — so we can improve Clipthesis. Autocapture and session recording are disabled: we do not record your screen, your keystrokes, your file names, or the contents of your library.

6. The website

The clipthesis.com website does not use advertising trackers. When you download the app, an anonymous counter records the version, platform, and architecture downloaded — no personal information. If you use the "notify me" form on an unsupported platform, the email you enter is currently kept only in your own browser's local storage.

7. Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run Clipthesis, each receiving only what they need:

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

8. Retention and deletion

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR if you're in the EU or UK), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, email support@clipthesis.com.

10. Security

Data is transferred over encrypted connections (HTTPS), access to production systems is limited, and payment data is handled solely by Stripe. No system is perfectly secure, but we aim to keep the amount of data we hold about you small — the best-protected data is the data we never collect.

11. Children

Clipthesis is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll post the update here and, for material changes affecting subscribers, notify you by email before it takes effect.

13. Contact
